If you have changed your Java installation recently and now Igniton won't start, it's probably caused by the path to Java being altered. Below are the steps to reset the path in Ignition.
You can also watch a video of this process by going here.
Step 1: Confirm Java and Ignition versions
- Check if you have installed the 32bit or 64bit version of Java. You should be able to find it in the computer's Program Files folder. If you have a 64bit computer, there will be both a "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" folder.
- Java should be installed in the same program files folder as Ignition. If you did not install the same 32/64 bit version of Java as you did for Ignition, then Ignition will not start.
Note: You can have both 32bit and 64bit versions of Java on your computer at the same time.
- You can uninstall All versions of Java to start over if you prefer.
Step 2: Copy Java File Path
- Browse to the java.exe file (probably "C:/Program Files/Java/jre7/bin/java.exe") and copy the file path.
- Open the ignition.conf file in the Inductive Automation install directory (probably "C:/Program Files/Inductive Automation/Ignition/data/ignition.conf") using any text editor.
- Look for these lines:
- Set the "wrapper.java.command=" line to the new path to your java.
- Save the file.
** If you are unable to save the file here, copy the ignition.conf file to another location (like your Desktop), make the changes, save, then replace the old ignition.conf file with the new one. Make sure the file does not get saved with a different file extension.**
Step 3: Start Ignition
- Open the Gateway Control Utility and start Ignition.
